New certification program of the Royal White sheep is currently being implemented, the program is voluntary now, but will be required. Special bright orange tamper resistant  tags will be issued that cross reference registration papers.  All registered Royal White sheep will be required to be certified and have the orange certification tag in the right ear by January 1, 2009. This is another tool to help protect your investment against fraud, misrepresentation as well as a method to cross reference your sheep.  Quality, consistency and retention of certain traits in the breed is important. Too many breeds allow upgrading and so called grading up wschemes from other breeds, thus potentially dilution many genetic traits the breed was originally developed for or add unwanted traits.  The all hair factor in summer months is one of those traits. The Royal White sheep is a geniune hair sheep, not a wool-hair composite. Other benefits to the sheep industry will be greater reliable research data results in performance and with new emerging technology for  genetic research, the Royal White hair sheep will be an excellent model in consistency that is required. The consumer and retailer of lamb meat will experience a more consistent meat product. For details and requirements contact Royal White. LLC.  Inspections will be required in the summer months of June-July-August. Special sequential orange tamper resistant tags as pictured above will be issued by Royal White, LLC and are available now.  Note: all registered Royal White Sheep will be required to be certified by the date of January 1, 2009. Cost of tag is $5 per tag and inludes S&H and paper work, a copy of your registration paper will be required to certify.  A very reasonable total cost of $10 to register and certify your sheep is well worth the effort.

Note:  A new Blue Tag with sequential numbering will be availabe soon for those that have lambs born with no tail or bobbed tail.  Contact Bill Hoag for more info.

The response to this certification program has been excellent. the objective is too keep the Royal White maternal and as pure as we can keep it with the traits that sheep producers desired.  A pure all hair pedigree ovine.
